Carlos Ghosn, former president of Nissan, has denied charges against him, Japan's NHK television reported on Sunday.

Ghosn, who did not make public statements, told investigators he did not intend to hide part of his reward in the financial documents, the television said without giving a source for the information.

On Saturday, Gregg Kelly, the former chief executive of Nissan, who was arrested with Ghosn, defended Ghosn's reward, saying it had been discussed with other officials and properly paid.

Ghosn was arrested on Monday after an internal investigation, based on a tip-off from a guide, revealed he had committed irregularities, including using the company's money for personal purposes and providing false data on his personal income over years.

Ghosn is a businessman of Lebanese origin and holds Brazilian and French citizenship. He was born on March 9, 1954, in the Brazilian city of Porto Valle.

He is currently Chairman and CEO of Nissan Japan and Renault, and Chairman of Mitsubishi Motors.

Ghosn saved Nissan from bankruptcy in 2000 and turned it into profitability within a year, ending $ 20 billion in debt over three years, a task that was then described as impossible.

Carlos Ghosn is one of the top 50 men in politics and business.
