The Standard & Poor's 500 Index closed higher on Wednesday after falling for two days, led by energy and technology shares, but the market plummeted near the end of the session after Apple shares gave up their gains ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Based on the latest available data, the Dow Jones industrial average closed flat, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 8.04 points, or 0.30 percent, to 2,649.93 points.
The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 63.43 points, or 0.92 percent, to 6,772.25.
