The United States on Tuesday renewed its accusations against China on the trade front, saying it continues to encourage the theft of US technical expertise.

In an update to a report published mainly in March, US trade representative Robert Laitheiser said China had not addressed the practices, which have long been criticized by the United States and other countries.

"This modernization shows that China has not fundamentally modified its unfair and reckless practices, which lead to market imbalances," he said.

The administration of US President Donald Trump has accused China of unfair trade practices, citing government subsidies to companies, transfers of US technology to the Chinese market and the "theft" of intellectual property.

Beijing rejects the charges. But Tokyo and Brussels joined Washington in condemning Chinese practices. The three economies published a joint statement in this direction last September.

The report of the Ministry of Commerce, published on Tuesday, said China "has clearly taken reckless measures in recent months."

The 50-page report draws on findings from civil information security companies that China's piracy activities have continued in some high-value US sectors.
