British Prime Minister Teresa Mae's office said on Monday that Britain's agreement to leave the EU allowed it to sign trade deals with the United States.

This came after US President Donald Trump said the deal could hinder trade between the two countries.

"The political declaration we agreed with the EU is very clear. We will have an independent trade policy so that the UK can sign trade agreements with countries around the world, including the United States. "

"We are already laying the foundation for an ambitious agreement with the United States through our joint working groups, which have met five times so far," she said.
