Iraq said late on Monday it wanted to allow imports of Russian-made wheat.

Trade Minister Mohammad Hashim al-Ani said in a statement that he would send a delegation to Russia to study the quality and suitability of wheat for use in Iraq's huge food ration program.

Iraq is a major importer of grain in the Middle East and imports most of its wheat from the United States, Australia and Canada. Besides Saudi Arabia, it is one of the few markets in the Middle East that does not import Russian wheat.
